Situated on a small, but centrally located 1.3 square miles, Golden Beach is an ideal community for those who enjoy getting out on two wheels. Florida State Road A1A runs through the center of Town as opulent Ocean Boulevard; in 2015 the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) designated the travel lanes in both directions as share-the- road lanes with cyclists, allowing cyclists to use an entire lane to safely traverse the Town’s limits. Golden Beach is also home to winding streets that connect the mainland and cross over the intracoastal waterways to bisect the Town’s three islands, perfect for cyclists who prefer a more leisurely route. The Town has implemented programs encouraging bike safety. For the younger residents the Town’s Police Department holds an annual “Bike Rodeo” where children learn about bike safety, including the importance of wearing helmets and protective gear, as well as obeying traffic signals and understanding the rules of the road. The Town is introducing bike uniforms in hopes of keeping cyclists visible and safe while on the road, uniforms will be available to residents upon request on a first-come- first-served basis. The Mayor and Town Council approved a resolution in 2016 laying out bike program initiatives in Golden Beach. The Town is looking forward to continuing to expand its bike program.
